Wingers Youngest Franchisee

wingers-derby-opening.jpg

At 25, Amaneek Choongh may be Wingers youngest solo franchisee but she’s not new to the QSR sector.  Amaneek worked in her dad’s Subway franchise for ten years before getting a job in procurement for a leading waste recycling business.

Amaneek explains: “I’d worked in procurement for a couple of years at the recycling business but I honestly missed the customer facing side of a busy food outlet in my day-to-day role.  I’d also seen the benefits of being self-employed and running a restaurant, and how much fun it could be.

“My brother TJ is a Wingers franchisee for three sites and is also a development agent for West London and the Thames Valley.  My dad also knows the brand well and between them, they suggested I should consider the Wingers franchise opportunity.  Some of my cousins also work with Wingers so I knew it was a brand and a team I could really trust.

“I took a job working for my brother TJ in his Hednesford restaurant in Staffordshire.  This allowed me to learn about operations, what makes Wingers so successful and how customers are drawn in and respond to the fabulous food and friendly service.  I was quick to discover how much the customers loved the fresh buttermilk fried chicken served up with crunchy salad and washed down with their choice of milkshake.  They would come back time and again for their favourite meal!

“Wingers also offers eat in dining, take away or delivery so we are able to accommodate everything a customer might like.  After about six months working in-store, I felt confident that I could run a Wingers franchised restaurant myself.

“We looked at several sites and a unit in the Parks Farm Shopping Centre in Derby stood out.  The former café, which had been empty for a while, is in a lovely, popular family area, fairly near a school and close to the university so we thought it would work well.  I had secured a business bank loan to invest in the Wingers franchise and decided to go for it!

“The level of support I’ve received from the Wingers team has been impressive.  As well as all the detailed training I received, which I was then able to pass on to my own team, they have supported me with the unit fit out, all the processes, supplies and marketing.  One of the founders of Wingers joined us for the first week of trading to help out which was invaluable.  It meant we really hit the ground running.  After a successful launch, my job is now to build customer loyalty with the help of my team.

“It's exciting to see the growth of the Wingers brand and in a few years I will be proud to say I was the youngest solo and first female franchisee for Wingers!   Buying into a franchise, compared to developing my own brand was a far less risky option, particularly at my age.  I hope I’m paving the way for other female franchisees to show what’s possible and how the comprehensive support from a franchise like Wingers enables you to succeed.  With Wingers, the sky’s the limit!”
