How Telford Took 500 Orders on First Opening Friday

Wingers in Telford Shopping Centre opened over the Easter weekend in 2024 and took 500 orders on the bank holiday Friday alone.  The new store beat the previous Wingers’ weekly opening sales record by 67%.

Jack Davis, franchisee for Wingers in both Aldridge and Telford explains: “We had trained our brand new team and were ready for a soft launch earlier in the week, but word quickly got around.  Sales went sky high!

“Wingers in Telford is located in an outdoor food hall and close to big brands like TGI Fridays, COSMO, Nando’s and Pizza Express.  It’s also a fabulous destination shopping centre which supports activities from a cinema to mini golf and a nearby skating rink and footfall from visiting families over Easter was up even more than usual.  We were so busy, we had to close early on the Thursday night as we’d run out of our top notch chicken!

“We quickly arranged a fresh delivery and by the Friday, we were open for business again.  The queue was down the street with new customers all tempted to try our delicious buttermilk fresh fried chicken smothered with their favourite sauce.  We were visited by several local influencers too, who give us brilliant online reviews and new customers just kept turning up.

“Our tasty chicken, fried to perfection flew out the door.  We certainly sold far more than anticipated and the team worked really hard to deliver a wonderful Easter feast for the local community.

“Since opening, sales have continued to be excellent. We’ve had fun with local promotions too, including a visit from the IBO champion super-bantamweight boxer Liam Davies and his family.  Liam is a local lad and he generously spent four hours with us, enjoying a meal and meeting customers.  Our succulent tenders were his favourite!

“It’s fascinating that customers like different menu choices in our two stores.  In Telford, our Feast Bowls of fresh fried chicken tenders with salad and crunchy slaw are a top seller while in Aldridge, the Four Tenders Meal and house fries are incredibly popular.

“My plans for the future are to continue to establish both my Aldridge and Telford Wingers’ stores so they run as smoothly as possible.  Aldridge has only been open a year but I have a very capable manager who has allowed me to focus on the Telford launch and get the new team bedded in.  I also work with my dad Kem who puts in lots of time behind the scenes, plus we run a family electrical business so it’s important that growth is manageable.  However, further expansion with Wingers is certainly not out of the question!  Every day we are still learning but all our hard work is paying off and it’s worth it to see the two stores doing so well.”

Jack was first introduced to Wingers as a regular customer and then when he completed the electrical installation for five Wingers restaurants, plus a dark kitchen in Birmingham.  A chance conversation with Bill Sunner one of the founders of Wingers led to the franchise opportunity and now Jack and his dad Kem and uncle Oneal run two successful franchised Wingers in Aldridge and Telford.
