Dominos Celebrates 20 Years!

Domino's celebrate 20 years of successful franchising in the UK this summer. The first store opened in Luton on the 28th of July 1985, introducing the concept of home delivered pizza to the nation. This previously untapped phenomenon has gone on to sweep the nation and become the UK's most popular home delivered meal. Domino's now has 370 stores, 150 franchisees and nearly 9,000 full and part time employees in the UK.

In the highly competitive home delivery pizza market, Domino's faces continual challenges, from other national franchises and local independents, yet the company continues to strengthen its leading position through its innovation and a proven business model. With the market estimated to be worth ?1.8 billion by 2010, a Domino's franchise is an attractive offer for individuals who want to invest in their own business.

Andy Cooke, Franchise Sales Manager at Domino's comments, "Domino's represents a hugely exciting business opportunity for franchisees with a real passion for success. Evidence of the success of Domino's franchise concept is that in our 20th anniversary year, 20 of our franchisees now own businesses that are worth more than a million pounds."

Top this!

  • The UK is the largest international market for Domino's Pizza outside of the US.
  • Since opening its doors, Domino's estimates it has sold nearly 100 million pizzas! Domino's now sells more pizza than its main competitors combined.
  • Domino's can now deliver to over 7 million households in the UK, compared to just 30,000 in 1985.
  • If the 100 million pizzas sold by Domino's in the UK since 1985 were placed end to end they'd stretch around the world 12 times.
