Bright Signs, For a Bright Future
The UK’s leading signs and graphics manufacturer Signs Express (Gateshead) have been involved first hand, along with Gateshead College, in changing the face of Gateshead. This partnership is influential to the sights and culture of Gateshead and the surrounding areas.
Gateshead College recently undertook a massive £60million investment in new campuses on Gateshead Quayside. The prominent new Baltic Business Quarter campus has recently opened and is a major investment in educational facilities for the Gateshead region. Filled with state-of-the art facilities and workshops the new campus will provide a comprehensive and dynamic place to study and work.
Signs Express (Gateshead) centre owner Malcolm Lant and his team couldn’t wait to get back in the class room to give these modern new buildings the signage they required. In-keeping with the building’s impressive cutting edge design, Malcolm’s highly skilled sign makers worked in conjunction with the colleges’ artwork & design department to create the striking signage for the new Campus. The original brief received requested that the signs be bright but DDA compliant and ‘Student’ resistant. The directional and door signs were coated in suede paint which gives no reflection, and the text screen printed to avoid them from being altered or damaged in any way. All of the area signs were manufactured from powder coated aluminium applied with vinyl detail and over sprayed with an anti-graffiti lacquer.
The new campus buildings have transformed the grounds. Carolyn Wilkinson, from Gateshead College said, ‘We have worked closely with Signs Express (Gateshead) throughout this project, and we are extremely happy with all the signage they have produced for our new campus. The signs reflect our modern and forward thinking approach to learning.’
Commenting on the work Malcolm Lant said, ‘We thank Gateshead College for selecting us to work on this project as it was a fantastic achievement for both myself and the whole team at the centre! The new builds at Gateshead College are a massive benefit to the local area and we are delighted to have been involved with it and would value the opportunity to work with the college on any future sign projects.’
