Home Instead Senior Care franchise wins Startup award
In 2006/7 an estimated 2.5 million older people had some need for care and support.*
One inspiringcompany, Home Instead Senior Care, from Chester, is doing a fantastic job towards providing essential care for seniors. Last night, at the Startups Awards, the deserving company won Team of the Year, as well as scooping the overall title of Barclays Startups Business of the Year, taking home £5,000.
Home Instead Senior Care provides care and assistance to older people, allowing them to remain living in their own home as long as possible. Their services include companionship, meal-preparation, personal care, post discharge care, transportation, medical reminders and general errands.
The company currently has 25 franchised offices across the UK providing more than 1,000 hours of care per day, 365 days a year. With forecasts showing that one in four people in the UK will be over 65 in 15 years,** this is one business that is set to grow, despite the recession!
“This is a fantastic endorsement of what we have achieved so far. The business came about as a result of my grandfather’s illness as we felt that there was a lack of quality care available for him. What we want to do is change the face of ageing in the UK” said Trevor Brocklebank, founder.
The awards ceremony, organised by startups.co.uk, in conjunction with Barclays, took place on Thursday 30 October at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington. Hosted by Adrienne Lawler from Sky News, the prestigious awards celebrated the UK’s most outstanding companies and the people running them, across a range of categories, including Women in Business, Retailer of the Year, Social Enterprise of the Year and Green Business of the Year.
The winner of each category was decided by top judges, including Chrissie Rucker, founder, The White Company; Simon Calder, CEO, LOVEFiLM and Alan Giles, chairman, Fat Face. The successful businesses and the talented people behind them proved their brilliance after fighting off competition from hundreds of entries.
“Our winners are the business leaders of tomorrow but the driver’s of today’s economy. It’s essential we recognise their efforts and the success that they have achieved regardless of tough economic conditions. That’s what the Startups Awards and today’s winners are all about.” Says David Lester, founder of startups.co.uk
