Domino's Pizza female franchisees making a mark in the world of franchising

This month we look at the increasing number of ambitious females making their mark in the world of franchising.
Change is afoot in the business world. With more and more women starting their own business, the fairer sex is giving men, quite literally, a run for their money. At the end of January 2009, they accounted for a sizeable 27% of self-employed people in the UK.
Female entrepreneurs are also realising the benefits of franchising as a way to take charge of their own destiny in the current unsettled economic climate, and are using it as an opportunity to run their own business.
Franchisor Domino’s Pizza is actively recruiting new franchisees and is increasingly seeing more female entrepreneurs join the business and set up their own pizza empire.
Andy Hirst, head of franchise development at Domino’s Pizza, explains: “When you consider the benefits of the franchise business model, it is easy to see why there is an increasing number of women entering franchising. Franchises such as Domino’s enable budding entrepreneurs to run their own successful business, while offering the flexibility to maintain a good balance with their family life.
“People from a wide variety of backgrounds have the potential to become a franchisee – as long as they have finances available and a willingness to work hard. What we find at Domino’s is that, whatever their background, our franchisees have one thing in common – they want to succeed and are motivated to be their own boss and are extremely hard working. An increasing number of women are coming to us with exactly this attitude.”
Offering one of the best franchise opportunities available, Domino’s is the ideal proposition for anyone looking to start their own business. The company is showing strong growth, with like for like sales up by over 9.3%2. With over 560 stores in the UK and a goal of 1,000 by 2017, Domino’s is seeking new franchisees to open these additional stores. The cost to become a Domino’s franchise is around 260,000 and applicants will need access to around 100,000 of their own money. Every new franchisee is fully supported by Domino’s in their new venture with comprehensive management and franchise training, plus ongoing support from an experienced head office team and a network of successful franchisees who have already started their own businesses.
