Further success for Belvoir franchise's Steve Slawson

Steve Slawson, proprietor of Belvoir Worcester, has acquired a second territory by successfully purchasing Belvoir Hereford as a resale.

Commenting on his acquisition, Steve said: “Belvoir Hereford is about a 40-minute drive from my Worcester office, but the girls who work there do a fantastic job and so I currently spent about one-third of my time in Hereford and the rest in Worcester. The resale went smoothly, but the franchise support team at Belvoir’s Central Office were incredibly helpful - I don’t think I could have done this without them.”

Steve’s latest business development comes just 18 months after he acquired the lettings portfolio of a local estate agent, gaining a significant number of extra properties overnight. Belvoir officially recognised Steve’s achievements in 2010 when he won the Belvoir Acquisition Award for the most successful acquisition of a competitor.

Belvoir MD Dorian Gonsalves said: “Steve is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, and the resale of Belvoir Hereford will be a great asset to his portfolio and business. We wish him every success for the future.

“I’m delighted that another Belvoir franchise owner has been able to realise his asset and in doing so has benefitted from a cash sum, as this is exactly the reason why people choose to join Belvoir in the first place. Growing a business can be challenging but with the help and support of one the best franchisors in the industry there’s no reason why a sizeable and valuable asset can’t be grown from scratch within a relatively short time period.

“We are currently experiencing very low levels of resales, which suggests that our franchise owners do not want to leave Belvoir! Many franchise networks re-sell between 5 and 10 percent of their network each year. We are currently re-selling less than 3% as our franchise owners simply do not wish to sell.

“Our support team works closely with our franchise owners to help develop their individual business plans and overall business strategy. This is critical to the success of any small business and demonstrates the benefits of being part of a professional and experienced franchise model.”

Prior to joining Belvoir in 2002, Steve worked in accounts, but admits to finding his old job a little staid, leading him to seek a more interesting career. So, has Belvoir fulfilled this ambition?

“Definitely!” say Steve. “It’s all going well and I really enjoy it, although my wife recently had a baby who doesn’t sleep through the night yet, so life is busy at work and hectic at home. Nevertheless I wouldn’t have it any other way – it’s fantastic!”
