DOMINO'S OPENS UK'S FIRST CENTRE OF PIZZA EXCELLENCE
Domino's Pizza, the UK's leading pizza delivery company, has opened a state of the art training centre in Kingston, Milton Keynes, marking an investment of £400,000 for the company.
The centre has been built to accommodate Domino's rapid expansion. The company aims to open 30-40 stores per year over the next few years and currently has 337 nationwide, bringing with it an ever-increasing demand for training from new franchisees and managers as well as existing franchisees and team members who want to develop their expertise.
In the coming year, the new centre will run dozens of courses, catering for all levels of expertise from business for franchisees through to dough management for pizza makers and road safety for pizza delivery experts. From January 2005, there will be a Franchise Development Programme hosted each month at the centre, catering for up to 50 new franchisees seeking to join Domino's in the coming year.
Gillian Logan, Head of Flawless Execution team at Domino's, says: "When franchisees join the system they become part of an ever-developing and growing business. We constantly strive to retain our market leadership and are committed to keeping our training programmes and innovative procedures in line with this. Ongoing training support is an important element of the Domino's package that our franchisees buy into and it helps them keep pace with our very dynamic market and the changing needs of customers; for example, we now have to train our franchisees in the use of e-commerce and new technology that Domino's has pioneered. The new centre will help us maintain high standards and provide quality courses on a more regular basis."
The centre provides space for three training rooms, compared to just one previously, enabling multiple courses to take place at any one time. New trainers have been appointed to cater for the growing number of training courses and each class will be fitted to accommodate six to twelve trainees.
To assist in the practical training aspect, one of the training areas is equipped with a replica pizza delivery store, ensuring that training can take place in a controlled environment before the trainees are allowed to practice in a store. In-store training will also continue to be a major element of many of Domino's training courses, however this will now take place in the flagship store in Kingston, Milton Keynes, which occupies the ground floor beneath the training centre.
