Celebrating 20 Years - Martin Sweeney
Martin Sweeney recently reached an impressive 20 year milestone with us.
He began his Card Connection journey in December 2004 by taking on the Wakefield franchise, a Silver area. Martin’s hard work and conscientious approach made an immediate impact. Sales success followed, and it soon became apparent that he had ambitions far greater than this single area. Towards the end of 2007 Martin purchased the Stockport area, transforming a previously under-performing territory within a matter of months. Retailers spoke of his commitment to servicing, and the positive word spread. New accounts swiftly followed on the back of this.
Little did we know at the time, but this area purchase marked just the beginning of several clever expansions by Martin, all aimed at maximising sales and strengthening the business. The Sheffield area came next, a wonderfully shrewd move by Martin who once again saw his efforts rewarded with sales growth. More recently he also snapped up a number of additional postcodes around Bradford. Perhaps the most significant of all the developments was his purchase of the Oldham area in 2021. This acquisition allowed Martin to bring his daughter Laura into the Card Connection fold. Their energetic teamworking has seen them thrive together, with the business going from strength to strength.
As Martin heads towards his hard-earned retirement he’s been giving Laura more responsibility within the business, building a succession plan for years to come. Now we can reflect not just on his fantastic 20 year legacy with Card Connection, and an incredible journey of ambition and sales growth, but also the laying of foundations for a successful future within the family too.
