Karali Group Secures Master Franchise for Marugame Udon in UK and Ireland
Marugame Udon, the popular Japanese cuisine restaurant chain, has entered a master franchise agreement with Karali Group, marking a significant step in its expansion across the UK and Ireland. This agreement shifts Marugame Udon from a company-owned model to a fully franchised operation, aiming to simplify operations and accelerate market growth.
Karali Group, under the leadership of Salim and Karim Janmohamed, will now oversee the development of new Marugame Udon locations. In addition, they have taken over the management of the existing UK restaurant network, which comprises eight London locations and one in Reading.
"Since introducing Marugame Udon to the UK in 2021, we have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome from customers.” said Victor Misawa, president of Marugame Udon International.
Marugame Udon's UK entry began in 2021 through a joint venture between Toridoll Holdings and Capdesia Group. Capdesia Group recently concluded its investment in July 2024.
Misawa continued, "Today, Marugame Udon proudly serves thousands of udon lovers every day, each bowl prepared fresh in our lively open kitchens.
"With nine restaurants now open, we're thrilled to partner with Karali Group to bring our brand to even more communities. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our amazing team members, partners and customers.”
Karali Group brings a diverse franchise portfolio to the partnership, spanning fast food and casual dining, including UK operations of Taco Bell and Crosstown Doughnuts.
Karim Janmohamed stated, "We are delighted to announce this landmark partnership with Marugame Udon and the acquisition of such a fantastic estate of restaurants.

A seamless transition for customers and staff is currently underway. Sam McIntyre, the interim CEO and finance director, will manage this process before transitioning to a leadership role with Marugame Udon USA.
